Conformity assessment of broadcasting and communications equipment
The conformity assessment of broadcasting and communications equipment is enforced by the Radio Waves Act Article 58-2, the certification of which is categorized into conformity certification, conformity registration and Interim Certification.
Anyone who intends to manufacture, sell or import broadcasting or communications equipment shall obtain certification of conformity, registration of conformity or Interim Certification in accordance with the regulations.

Application Procedure
Applications for the conformity assessment can be submitted online (http://www.emsit.go.kr).
Conformity Certification
Application should be sent online to the National Radio Research Agency with appropriate documents for the manufacture, sale and importation of the following equipment: equipment which can harm the radio environment and the broadcasting communications network, equipment which can cause severe electromagnetic interference or equipment affected by electromagnetic waves so much that its normal operation is interrupted.
Conformity Registration
For the manufacture, sale or importation of broadcasting and communications equipment not subject to Conformity Certification, the manufacturer, seller or importer of such equipment must attach a confirmation document (attached Document No. 6) to an online e-Application proving that the equipment is in compliance with the technical regulation for conformity assessment.
Interim Certification
When there are no corresponding technical regulation for conformity assessments for a certain broadcasting and communications equipment or when the equipment is deemed unfit for the conformity assessment, the assessment can be conducted according to standards, specification or technical regulations accepted in Korea or internationally and be manufactured, sold or imported with region, expiration date and certification conditions on the label.

Not complying with the regulations and partaking in the manufacture, sale or importation of equipment without undergoing conformity assessment (provided that the equipment is not exempt from the conformity assessment) will be penalized.

Broadcasting and communications equipment that has not undergone conformity assessment may cause harm to users through electromagnetic waves.
- Excessive exposure to electromagnetic waves may cause harm to human bodies.
- The security of the equipment may be at risk due to interference between the electromagnetic waves.
- There is risk of fire or electrocution.
Violators who display, transport and store broadcasting and communications equipment that has not undergone conformity assessment for the purpose of sales

- Please check that the product has undergone conformity assessment before buying or selling the product.
Broadcasting and communications equipment that has undergone conformity assessment must be labeled accordingly.

- It can be scaled down or up with equal proportion
- When the product is too small to be labeled, the certification number or design can be put on the product
Violators who sell equipment without appropriate label will be face up to 3 million won in terms of fines or have their certification revoked.

- Broadcasting and communications equipment must be manufacture and imported in accordance with the technical regulation and regulation at the time of the conformity assessment.
Any changes to the communications equipment after the conformity assessment must be declared.
Technological changes (with test reports attached)
- Change in circuit and removal, substitution or addition of parts
- Removal, substitution or addition of components within the equipment
- Change in the external appearance
Changes unrelated to the technical regulation (test not required)
- Change or addition of product model name
- Change or addition of manufacturer or country of manufacture
- Change of the company name, name or address of the person who applied for the conformity assessment
Violators who do not declare such changes will face up to 1 million won in terms of fines or have the certification revoked.
Only equipment suitable for the technical regulation should be manufactured, imported and sold.
If the equipment that has undergone conformity assessment does not suit the technical regulation, the violator may face administrative penalty such as the revocation of conformity certification and conformity registration as well as destruction and collection of the product.
